Coffinworm “Great Bringer of Night” LP
Coffinworm plays ugly music for hateful people.
The doomhauling quintet first came crawling out of the primordial ooze of Indianapolis’ D.I.Y. underground in 2007, and have kept themselves busy doing the devil’s work ever since.
Their virgin offering, a self-released three-track demo, entitled Great Bringer of Night, demanded attention. In this initial offering COFFINWORM had given volcanic birth to a wretched, heaving slab of noxious, blackened death sludge of the lowest order, one that eventually led to their signing with Profound Lore and invitations to perform a number of high-profile live actions across the country. Hellish, depraved, and heavy as a neutron hammer, Coffinworm have truly created a monster.
The Flenser is pleased to be dragging this filthy gem, Great Bringer of Night, out into the sunlight to give it the treatment it so richly deserves. This deluxe version will include two additional unreleased recordings (five tracks total) from the same recording sessions in all their raw glory, and comes graced with the gorgeous artwork of Bryan Proteau (Lycus, Obolus) and a finely-tuned mastering job from James Plotkin (Khanate).
Sludge, tortured doom, snarling black metal, knuckle-dragging death metal and a few handfuls of crusted-over punk meld together into one of the nastiest, most misanthropic, most wonderfully ugly albums you’ll ever hear, and now, you’ll finally be able to experience it on coal black vinyl – heavy as black tar, addictive as black tar.
Comes in a heavy jacket with an insert.
120 copies on gold vinyl.
380 copies on black vinyl.
Wheels Within Wheels/Merkaba “Split” CS
Split cassette by two of Kentucky’s most interesting dark bands.
Hailing from Louisville Kentucky, Wheels Within Wheels is a one-person entity featuring Crow from doom band Seidr. Heavy, ambient drone; buzzed-out blackness. Think Godflesh versus Gnaw Their Tongues. Wheels Within Wheels contributes one disturbing yet sophisticated 20 minute track that makes us here at the Flenser very very uncomfortable.
Merkaba is an atmospheric black metal band from Lexington, Kentucky. They have self-released one hard to find demo and an equally rare full-length. Their contribution to this release reminds us of a Neil Young, Fell Voices match up. Dynamic, immersive, lo-fi, raw.
